Great Sand Sea

The great sand sea in Egypt starts at Siwa oasis stretching over 300kms in Libya and 500kms south towards Gilf Kebir. It is the third largest dune field on the planet and is around the size of England, home to a few desert reptiles and miser and desert drivers taking tourist to Gilf Kebir or smuggling in goods from Libya from Egypt. There are no wells or sustainable vegetation.

		What makes the Great Sand Sea different from other dune fields, is you do not need to go through the process of hiring three desert ready jeeps to take you out to the dunes. We live on the edge of the Great Sand Sea in Siwa and we often walk out into the dunes from our house with our children.

You can travel through the dunes by foot, by donkey, camel and of course by Land Cruiser. It is an amazing experience walking through dunes that you know go on for hundreds of kilometres.
