Alexandria Alexandria is the place to be when the weather starts to get warm in Egypt as it is next to the sea and has that northern wind to keep it cool, but it does get crowded and as the humidity is high can feel hotter than Siwa. Alexandria is one of the coolest beach resorts... in the middle east, so it tends to attract a lot of holiday makers from other parts of the middle east who don't want to go to Spain. Swimming in Alexandria on the public beaches is strictly clothes on, even when you dive into the sea, jeans and all. It's kind of weird be going fully clothed and walking down to the beach and just keep walking until your up to your neck in it. We did it once with a friends family, the holiday was great, but the swimming, well that part of the reason why we have bought an acre of land in Marsa Martuh for our weekend breaks from Siwa to go swimming in the Mediterranean.

Cairo Climate in Cairo is similar to Siwa and very good in May but due to the humidity being higher can feel a lot warmer. Most days are not too hot and are pleasant with evenings being pretty perfect with no extra layers required and unlike in the winter, it never rains in Cairo in May. You can leave your hotel in the morning wearing a T shirt or light blouse and light trousers or skirt and not a lot else. In the heat of the day you will probably want to be somewhere out of the direct sun, but if your at the Pyramids in the morning one of our all inclusive tours show here you will be fine until lunchtime. Then its best to be out of the sun until at least 3.00pm, the good thing about it being so warm is you don't need a jacket or fleece for the evening. You stay as you are for the whole day.
