Duncan - Siwa Team

Our story

Duncan

I started out in life as a freelance paparazzi photographer and then working for the Sun newspaper before going freelancing for women’s magazines. In 1995 I discovered the Internet and by 2001 had my own interactive advertising agency in Smith Field Market, London (the sign ‘Channelbay’ is still there). I loved the rat race, until I didn't and now I love what we are doing with Somewhere Different in Egypt and Romania.

Once I get an idea in my head... I stick with it until it's done. Hence what we are doing. It was just and idea... but it would not go away and so for the last five years we have worked hard to set up our Somewhere Different offering for you to enjoy.

  Marake lake Siwa Oasis
Me, out on our land at Marake lake.
My life seems to evolve around toilets ... and the getting of hot water to them   cutting wood in breb Romania
I seem to spend a lot of time with 'toilet building'

I do have some pics somewhere without a jeep in it;)

I love driving our jeep out in the desert or up in the mountains in Romania. The 'simple' life is still a long way away but we can see the end to the building stage of Somewhere Different and those lazy days ahead! I am currently writing a book on our adventures called 'Living Somewhere Different' and will hopefully be publishing it soon. Until then, you can get a good idea of what we have been up to in our family's travel log.

my jeep

My jeep in Siwa is an original Toyota Land Cruiser. It took a few years, but I now know how to drive in the dunes and more importantly, which way leads back to the oasis. I look forward to taking you out in to the dunes and show you a place like no other.
