Entertainment – Siwa Villa
Board games, chess, a pack of cards and several tables to leave it all on around the villa and up on the roof. It’s all here for your entertainment. There is no TV. Kids assume as we are ‘somewhere different’ the is no TV and never complain, hence the cards. We do have an iPod station so don’t forget the iPod and if you ask nicely we’ll let you copy our collection of Arabic music;)
The maps on the wall provide you with ideas for days out and exploring just like the old pioneers or desert exploration that came through Siwa nearly 100 years ago. There is a growing library of books in the Map room with a lot of the books around the theme of desert exploring and Siwa and paper back that people leave behind. So if you have a book and your not attached to it, if you don’t mind, leave it in the library for future guests.
The map room is bright and airy and has a great view of the Shali especially when the sun is setting and the colour of the old fort changes.
The picture to the left is the door leading to the ‘Palm room’ with the palm bunk beds from the map room and changes colour through out the day. The door is made of palm from the trees in the oasis. The ceilings are very high, over 3 meters to allow the hot air to rise and to give you a feeling of space.
It’s a bit of luxury, but we have our own spring in the Villa’s garden about ten minutes drive away on the edge of the sahara desert. It’s deep enough to dive into and looming around in the water is must. The garden is for the sole use of our guests and is very private. Camp fires and sleeping out The making fires on the roof of the villa, in the garden and in inside the Villa in the winter can become addictive.
Our land at Bah El Din were you can camp out any time you like.
We also have a camp fire area in the garden on the edge of the sahara desert and if your adventurous you can sleep out on a 60 acres site we have out on the edge of the oasis near a village called Bah El Din that is right on the lake there and totally private. We have a camp area there as well and a large tent you can use. In the summer the weather is perfect for sleeping out around a fire and watching the stars slowly move by through the night.
The dinning room is crying out for big dinner parties. The table is massive and can fit ten people and a feast.. no problem. The kitchen is well fitted and you can get anything you need in town so there is no excuse, dinner for ten and many memorable evenings lay ahead.
If having dinner in doors is to ‘easy life’ for you. Go buy a whole lamb in the town ( they love peoples impersonations of a lamb when ordering) and roast it on the roof whilst everyone sits around the fire building their appetite. Why should you do this??? Simple.. because you can! However if sourcing a lamb is a bit too much, you can cheat and telephone a desert chef we know will come and cook the whole thing for you and serve everyone before leaving with no washing up in site 😉
