Western Desert of Egypt

The best desert in all of Egypt

The western desert, is in the east of Africa… it’s called the Western Desert as it was the western side of the British Empire’s hold on that part of Africa and not by its real name of the Eastern Sahara or the Libyan Desert. The Western Desert is one of the largest in the world and forms the eastern side of the Sahara desert. It refers to the entire part of Egypt on the west side of the Nile, over two thirds of the country.

A lot of the western desert is flat, it is only once you get to Siwa Oasis that it gets interesting and more like the visions of a desert you have in your mind. Huge sand dunes and picture post card oasis lakes that rise out of nowhere.
