COWORKING / COLIVING

SOMEWHERE DIFFERENT

Digital Nomad? Looking for a coworkingcoliving hotel? Remote working in the week, hanging out with a like-minded digital nomad community at the weekends?

We believe there are six main elements to a good coworking coliving space.

COWORKING - What makes our spaces right for you?

Having reliable fast internet is obviously your base need in a coworking space – but as you know, working with like-minded digital nomads makes all the difference to your productivity and focus to your online work.

If you are staying in a hostel where everyone is partying and sightseeing day & night – you begin to question why you are not being like them and enjoying life? Then you remember they are all going back to their day jobs soon and are on holiday. You are not, you are at the day job in your remote office bubble and want to get stuff done.

Being surrounded by location-independent remote workers who have the same drive and motivations as you in a coworking environment makes all the difference. You want to be at your desk early, grab a coffee with fellow Digital Nomads and start your working day with a good feeling – not a hangover.

In both our coworking coliving houses in Egypt and England, the main work area is a ‘library rules’ quiet zone from 8.30 am to 6.00 pm. That’s ‘get stuff done’ time. Zoom calls for your clients or boss are taken in your room or the Not Quiet – coworking room.

Each desk is wide allowing you to have two screens, a mouse mat and note pad all in a row. Many of the desks have draws so you can leave your pens and stuff in the draws overnight.

It’s a relaxed but professional work culture in the coworking spaces. Anyone who books to stay Somewhere Different is asked to prove they are a Digital Nomad. If for any reason someone slips through the net, and is talking away in the coworking room all day and not working, not only will they be asked to be quiet but they will probably be asked to leave the hotel. A big part of what we offer is you will be a part of a digital nomad community, not just have a great work environment and things to do at the weekend.

COLIVING - Somewhere Different. How will it be?

Coworking / Coliving – Somewhere Different, is designed to make remote workers, that’s you, feel at home. I personally travelled as a Digital Nomad for years before setting up Somewhere Different. I wanted two things: a work environment I was productive in and somewhere – not that I would feel was my home, but at least where I felt at home.

Both of our coworking coliving spaces have a hostel culture feel to them. You instantly become part of the digital nomad community, and all that involves, with your fellow guests when you arrive.

When you are not ‘at the office’ you will be living with like-minded nomads who like you, want to feel at home with the people they are living with.  Communal kitchen/living areas, a fire pit ( in Egypt)  to sit around to hear those travel stories and planned trips out are all part of Somewhere Different’s offering.

You have your dorm or private room you can hide away in for deadline work and calls. When it’s done, you have your new fellow guests to hang out and enjoy the wow of being Somewhere Different. Most nomads staying, like in hostels, are travelling on their own. So you are not alone, you are with 15 other single digital nomad travellers, all working smart in the week and who all want to explore somewhere different at the weekends.

You do whatever you want, as long as you are quiet and work whenever you want. However, the whole idea is to fit into a digital nomad community and all that brings. A work routine, peer pressure and like-minded people to hang out with at the weekends. Below is our weekly program. You don’t have to fit into any of it, but, then why stay Somewhere Different?

  • During the week We start work at 8.30 / 9.00m and break/do your work till around 6.00 pm. The kitchen is there whenever you want to make lunch or there are 10s of restaurants within walking distance. Evenings during the week, do your own thing. We might all go out or have a Movie Night. There are some great Movies set in Blackpool. We have a 52″ 4k screen and sound system. There is no fixed plan.
  • Once a week I take the car to the supermarket, it’s only a 10-minute walk but you can go at this time and put a week’s shopping in the back of the car and walk back along the beach.
  • Friday As there is one of the best entertainment hubs in the UK 15 mins walk away – we tend to either arrange a night out in the town, a show like Funny Girls for £5 each or a party on the beach with the ice cooler and deck chairs. . In summer we might have a sandcastle competition on the beach or out on the lake in the desert. Hot springs in the desert – it all depends on who’s in and what the mood is.
  • Saturday – Is the big day out. We go exploring at 11.0am, out in the desert or the countryside; walking, hiking experiencing the local culture in a non-touristy way.
  • Sunday – Clean laundry is on offer to all guests and in the evening around 5.30 pm, we all have dinner together. You don’t have to join in, but all that do share the cost of the dinner. Each week someone ‘sponsors’ the dinner’ and cooks a dish from their country. See the dinner nights video here to give you an idea of what I mean.

COSTS - What's the cost of living Somewhere Different?

You are a Digital Nomad, or about to become one. You will have heard Chiang Mai is the place for Digital Nomads due to the balance of wow factor, costs and good internet. Don’t take my word for it, see here on the travellers bible for cost comparison – Numbeo Alexandria is our nearest big city in Egypt, it’s over 100% more expensive to live in Chiang Mai than Alex.

Somewhere Different Blackpool is in England, one of the most expensive countries in the world. The accommodation cost to stay in our Coworking Coliving Blackpool house is the same price as when you stay in the desert or Chiang Mia. A pint of beer in our local here is cheaper than a beer in Chiang Mai .

We provide cost-effective places to work from, to live and to have fun with like-minded Digital Nomads that are probably just starting out like you.

Unless you are a rock star travel blogger or killed it on bitcoins – you want to keep your costs as low as possible. The less you need pay to have a nice standard of living as you travel around the world, the more competitive you are when it comes to pitching for work. If you are just starting out, it makes all the difference.

Don’t forget when you finally decided to hit the road for a life of work and travel – the idea is to be in a place 5x more interesting than home and 5x cheaper to live. Siwa and Blackpool tick the cost of living box and the wow box too as you will see.

WIFI - It's all about keeping you online 24/7

wifi-speed-blackpool
We have fast, reliable internet with speeds between 13mbs and 10mbs in Somewhere Different Egypt and 1,000Mbps from a direct fiber connection in Blackpool. 5G in Blackpool is estimated to be installed in Somewhere Different UK in the summer of 2021. We ensure the connection is fast enough for Skype video calls and hassle-free browsing and downloading. We have generator backup for when the power goes to keep the connection alive in Egypt. If the internet goes down we have Vodafone 3G as back up. It’s fast enough to Skype from and is rarely needed, but it does happen – maybe once a month for a few hours.

Our top priority is making sure you are connected 24/7, seven days a week.  Why? Because a coworking/coliving space is first and foremost about having fast, reliable internet. To see more details on each Coworking Coliving house’s internet connections see Egypt’s Internet and Blackpool’s Internet connection for more details.

WEATHER - What's the weather like Somewhere Different?

Ok maybe because I am an Englishman that we have this obsession with the weather when we travel. Somewhere Different’s live in co-working space in Egypt is based in the beautiful desert oasis of Siwa in the Western Desert and has a pretty amazing climate. Check the weather in Egypt pages here to see what the weather will be like in the months you are looking to stay.

SIWA-MADE-SITE (16 of 129)

Blackpool cannot claim the same. English weather is famous for its unpredictability and “four seasons in one day” party trick. The weather in England is for sure weather and not climate. We talk about it as much as we talk about football. Blackpool does not get really hot in the summer staying below 25 degrees and rarely below 5 degrees on even the coldest days in the winter. There is so much more to do in Blackpool and the surrounding countryside to worry about the weather 🙂

WOW - We like lots of wow.

coworking-coliving-uk (62 of 119)

Sure we are entrepreneurs, we are business focused and we put working as a priority, but we are all travellers at heart or we would be working from the backroom in our new house back home. You come to stay at Somewhere Different to get the work environment and community you need, you also come to stay as they name says – Somewhere Different.

Experiencing countries’ real culture is often hard to do when staying in downtown touristville. You are busy working and don’t have the time to integrate and meet real locals who do not work in tourism, to work out where to go to experience the local life as it really is. We do…. and we share that with you.

You only live once and so weekends Somewhere Different are all about experiencing the wow of where you are staying in a way you would never be able to if passing through on your own as s tourist.  Check out or ‘wow’ sections for coworking coliving Egypt and coworking coliving UK and see what we have planned for you to experience when you stay…. Somewhere Different.
